TONIKAWA: Over the Moon For You ~Uniform~ Premiered at Crunchyroll Expo 2022!

The hit romantic comedy’s special episode screening was all filler, still killer.

Nasa and Tsukasa’s relationship is upended when Nasa’s workaholic tendencies are battled by Tsukasa’s growing need for attention and intimacy.

On Saturday, Crunchyroll Expo held the premiere of the newest episode of TONIKAWA: Over the Moon For You, a romantic comedy surrounding a boy named Nasa and his developing relationship with the mysterious Tsukasa – the woman who saved him after he was hit by a passing truck. Immediately falling head-over-heels for her, Tsukasa leaves him with an ultimatum: she’ll see him again one day if he agrees to marry her when she does. Combine this plot with a heavy allusions to the story of Princess Kaguya, and you arrive at the premise of this show.

What does this special episode tell us?

In terms of plot development, not a whole lot, although it is very clear that isn’t the purpose of this episode. The sole intent of this preview episode is to drive excitement for the newest season, which is currently in production at Seven Arcs, with its release scheduled to follow the public release of this special episode some time in the Fall of this year. What the episode does do, however, is push our two main characters closer together through the use of, as its title suggests: uniforms.

The episode puts Tsukasa in a lot of uniforms and other costumes, primarily Charlotte’s maid uniform, and a stereotypical Japanese school girl uniform. Tsukasa is encouraged to don these as a means to distract Nasa from his programming work as Tsukasa’s need for attention takes center stage. Overall, it’s the horniest episode of the show thus far, and by a wide margin, but the tone never oversteps into a creepy territory, but succeeds in displaying the kind of apprehensive encouragement one might find in a relationship between two people who clearly want each other but don’t know how to express that in a healthy manner.

This is the second special episode ahead of Season 2, with ~SNS~ premiering at last year’s Virtual Crunchyroll Expo. While neither really move the plot forward, they certainly illustrate the confidence Seven Arcs has in the new season and the show overall.

TONIKAWA: Over the Moon For You  Season One is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
