"Panty and Stocking" Season 2 Further Out Than We Thought

The long-awaited sequel to the comedy series may need a longer wait.

Our favorite devilish angels are coming back, but not quite yet.

Initially released in 2010, the Gainax-produced action/comedy Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt  concerned a pair of angels named Panty and Stocking who were banished from heaven for “bad behavior”, and team up with a revered named Garterbelt in order to rid the city of ghosts and earn their way back into heaven.

A sequel to the series was announced all the way back in 2022, alongside the news that animation studio Trigger, Inc – known for productions like Kill La Kill, Darling in the Franxx, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – had acquired the rights to both Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, and Gurren Lagann from studio Gainax. Since that initial announcement, we’ve recieved one promotional poster for the project, and the promise of a 2025 release.

However, sources close to the production say scripts still aren’t written and voice actors have yet to record “a single line of dialogue for the show.” The same sources are optimistic about the upcoming project, but with so little time left before the release date, it isn’t unlikely that we’ll see some sort of delay. It is worth noting that we did get some confirmation that the project is moving forward during Anime Expo this last July, but this latest update seems to suggest that progress is moving a lot slower than expected.

Will Trigger release New Panty and Stocking  before George R. R. Martin releases The Winds of Winter?  Place your bets!
